Welding up water jackets on a 2JZ! Why!? How!?
Просмотров 63 тыс.2 месяца назад
When you have a 5 or 6 second car the last thing you want is water under the tire. This is why it is common practice to weld the deck of the head, and use a dry deck block to avoid issues if the cylinder head lifts or blows a gasket causing water to go under the car at 200 mph!

BMW B58/S58 aftermarket valve spring tech!
Have you ever had a head come back better than when it left? lol
This is probably a dumb question but I've been thinking of fitting a 2jzge vvti intake cam in a 1jzge vvti head. Is it possible? I'm running n/a so I want to play around and see what I can do just for some gains before I purchase a 2jzge bottom end. Is it possible? What all must be done? Is it worth it?
At one time I tried a full radius valve job and that hurt power for sure. I have done a straight 60 75 angle exhaust setup to reduce reversion and that works but that's a na thing and I make a larger contact area it all depends on use and fuel
You should let people know which business did this, that way they can avoid them.

Can this be done to a b16 cyl head?
@@badboyracing5391 I wouldn’t suggest that
@@headgames thanks! I wasn’t planning on it, for some reason it reminded me of a b16 head and the end result looks more like that of a gsr. Since I cought your eye, thoughts on the gsc 6mm stem exhaust valves ? For b16/8
@@badboyracing5391 if you’re making 1000+whp that valve would be great! Any other manufacturer, it’s a custom valve. We use them in sfwd applications.
Let's say for example that I already bought unnamed spring A, do you think they would be useable if I installed them with the OEM locks and not the supplied locks?
@@myg240z yes, they were designed for the oem lock
@@myg240z but, you also need to measure coil bind if you’re using an aftermarket cam. Because some of the springs we tested would coil bind if it was more than oem. We had to use 2 sets to make 1 set.
@@headgames Of course! I would always measure for coil bind first. Thanks for the quick reply.
Much harder than it looks!
Do you have any experience with an M54 head? Wondering if any gains are possible… already forced induction and wondering if I gasket match the exhaust if there’s anything to be had. Love your stuff Dave!!
@@evanormous6409 I can’t think of any cylinder head that really gains at the gasket end. The gains are in the valve job and bowl area.
Hah! I had to pause this and check the day it was published! Hah!
I would like to see you do something with a 12v vr6

Amazing sharing as always 🫡🫡
So, recently the head gaskets on my SOHC Subie started to leak (as they do). I did some mild port work before sending the heads off for a resurface and nice fresh valve job. Headgames were about $200 more than one of your competitors - so I chose the competitor. That was a mistake. They did a beautiful job resurfacing the deck; and the valvejob looks good (and seals). They did a good job tipping the valvestems. When I assembled my cams and set lash - all 16 were consistently about 0.020" loose, suggesting they actually translated the material lost to grinding valves & cutting seats into the material removed off the valvestems. However, the $100 I paid them to clean the heads was a total waste. There was still black Boelube funk in the ports as well as other grime from 180k miles on the heads. They came back assembled - but I had to re-disassemble them to **actually** clean them - and then re-re-assemble again. The heads came back wrapped in a couple layers of saran-wrap. Luckily they re-used my very nice boxing with custom liquid-foam inserts. The communication was almost non-existent. I know automotive machine shops are usually not very responsive; and usually overpromise/underdeliver in terms of delivery dates - but it took 8 weeks (after promised delivery date) to finally get them to answer emails/calls and get the heads shipped out. Last, when I DID finally get a hold of them and was time to pay - they wanted 2X more than the published prices on the "services" page of their website. I had to argue/negotiate to get them to come close to matching their published prices. In the end, my choice "saved" me maybe $50. Luckily, the subie is back up and running - even feels like it's got a little more oomph above ~4000rpm... But I won't make this same mistake again. Keep up the good work.
This is in Mckinney Texas?
@@hoodoliberty Yes, but I've since edited their name out of my gripe. Would appreciate you removing the specific reference from your comment as well.

Thinkin’ this reveals a part of things people don’t consider. The requirement to reverse engineer, things like datums and locations, that aren’t found in manuals and other references, to build in accuracy / compatibility, before starting to make chips, if y’all expect to do it more then once.

It doesn't sound like you to just assume! Being with Don Schumacher racing they do a lot of assuming here to but I just look at them a little crazy.
I certainly would think nobody would assume there! But, that's in every shop. We think we know, until we learn that we didn't know lol
Congrats on the CNC! Will it work better than hand porting when it comes to pocket porting 2jz heads ?
CNC is not "better" than hand porting; it's just faster. Keep in mind the robot doesn't know HOW to port. It simply reproduces the porting YOU show it how to do. For heads where all the ports are the same, like an LS, the CNC is able to make all of them identical... You can digitize just one intake port and one exhaust port, and the robot will re-create that exact same shape for the rest of the ports. However, considering real world airflow dynamics within the intake manifold - it's questionable if there is any advantage to every single port being identical to begin with. Last, in terms of the 2JZ - every port is different from Toyota anyway.
@@GroovesAndLands thank you for the great explanation
@@GroovesAndLandsthe advantage is consistency and known "recipe" that was ideally tested to be not too much, not too little, but just enough

@@shaunmccreedy6121 thanks!
Have you used the ferrea hollow valves in a build yet? I believe they 20% lighter than std valves but also cheaper than titanium valves. If so would you recommend them?
@@shaunmccreedy6121 I wouldn’t use Titanium or a hollow stem for a 1jz or 2jz. The hollow stem is just scary on anything that makes jam with a 6mm stem to me, afraid of it breaking. And a titanium valve is just not worth the added expense.
